Storm Damage Roof Repair in Baton Rouge, LA

Big Easy Roofing repairs storm damaged roofs across Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish. This page is about what happens after the weather has passed: what the damage actually is, what each category costs to put right, and what we photograph. If water is coming in right now, call rather than read on.

Baton Rouge storm damage repair at a glance

Storm damage is priced by what is actually damaged rather than by the storm. A few lifted courses and a repair sits in the hundreds; a covering broken across several slopes runs into a replacement. The assessment is what tells the two apart.

Estimated repair range

$500 to $20,000

The spread is wide because storm damage is. A handful of wind lifted courses sits at the bottom, a covering damaged across several slopes at the top, where it stops being a repair. Call (504) 800-8196 and we will assess it before quoting.

Who issues the permit

East Baton Rouge Parish

The parish is the permitting authority for Baton Rouge addresses. A localised storm repair is not the re roofing the 2025 rule covers, but a storm that takes the roof into a full re roof is, and we confirm the position with Permits and Inspections before that work starts.

How it is priced

By damage category

Each type of damage is priced as its own line, so you can see what is being repaired and why rather than being handed a single storm total that cannot be checked against anything.

Documentation

Before anything moves

The damage is photographed with time and location stamps before any repair begins, and the pack is yours to use however you need. What your insurer makes of it is between you and them.

What we do not do

Interpret your policy

Louisiana law restricts what a roofing contractor may tell you about your own insurance cover, and we keep to that. We describe the damage and price the work. Coverage is a question for your insurer.

Assessment

Same week

A single house is normally assessed within the week. After a widespread storm the whole region is queuing at once, and we will tell you where you are in it rather than promise a day we cannot hold.

Every figure on this page is an estimate, not a quote, and is subject to Big Easy Roofing sign off. Cost and timescale depend on size, pitch, access, weather, materials and whatever is found once work starts, so call Big Easy Roofing on (504) 800-8196 and we will come out and give you an estimate for your own roof.

The hardest thing about storm damage is that the worst of it is often the least visible. Shingles in the garden are obvious and are usually the cheapest part of the job. The expensive version is a covering whose seal strips were broken by wind across a whole slope, which lies back down looking untouched and then lets water under it in the next ordinary rain.

That is why the assessment comes first and the price second. Damage gets sorted into categories, each is photographed, and each is priced as its own line. A written scope built that way can be read by you, by another roofer, or by anyone else you choose to show it to, which a single storm total cannot.

One thing this page will not do is tell you what your policy covers. Louisiana restricts what a roofing contractor may say about a homeowner's insurance, and a contractor who tells you confidently that something is covered is either guessing or doing something they should not. We photograph, we describe, we price. The coverage question belongs to your insurer, and you are better served by a contractor who says so.

What storm damage looks like and what each type costs

Six categories cover the damage a Gulf storm leaves on a house roof. Each has its own repair, its own estimated band and its own tell, and the bands below are for the repair itself with nothing assumed about who pays for it.

Damage typeWhat we doEstimated bandHow you spot it
Wind lifted courses, seal brokenRe nail the lifted courses, replace torn tabs, re seal$500 to $2,500Often nothing from the ground, a stain inside after the next rain
Shingles missing outrightReplace the missing shingles and the courses around them$500 to $1,800Visible gaps, and shingle debris in the garden
Hail bruising to the coveringAssess the impact count per test square, repair or replace$800 to $6,000Dark soft spots where the granules have gone, felt exposed
Flashing blown at a wall or chimneyRe seat and re seal the flashing, replace step tins$400 to $900A drip stain on the wall below the joint
Tree limb impactClear the debris, repair the deck and covering in the strike zone$1,500 to $8,000Obvious, and the priority is the structure rather than the roof
Covering damaged across several slopesAssessed for replacement rather than repairQuoted as a replacementDamage in more than one plane, and an older covering

Estimated ranges for the repair, not quotes, and nothing here assumes anything about insurance. Hail in particular is judged on impact count per test square rather than on appearance. Call (504) 800-8196 and we will assess the roof and put each category in writing.

Why this page will not tell you what your insurance covers

A page like this would normally lead with claim handling. This one cannot, and the reason is worth understanding, because it changes what you should expect from any roofer who knocks on your door after a storm offering to take the whole thing off your hands.

Louisiana restricts what we may say

About your policy

La. R.S. 37:2159.1 limits what a roofing contractor may tell a homeowner about their own insurance cover. A contractor who assures you on the doorstep that the damage is covered, or that your deductible can be handled, is not doing you a favour.

So we document instead

And hand it over

The damage is photographed with time and location stamps before any work starts, sorted by category and priced line by line. That pack is yours whether or not you use us, and it is the record a roofer is in a position to produce.

A repair usually needs no permit

A re roof does

A localised storm repair is not the roof construction or re roofing that the 2025 rule covers. Where the storm has taken the roof into a full re roof, it is, and that is permitted and inspected by the parish. We confirm the position before that work begins.

And check who you are dealing with

Before signing anything

After a storm the market fills with people who were not here the week before. Check the contractor is licensed by the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors, get the price in writing with the date on it, and do not sign anything that assigns your claim to the contractor.

The damage that costs most is the damage you cannot see

Wind rarely removes a whole roof. What it does is break the seal strip that bonds each shingle course to the one below, and a course that has lost its seal lies back down looking completely normal. The roof passes a look from the driveway and then leaks in the next ordinary rain.

That is why an assessment after a storm is done on the roof rather than from the ground, and why a stain that appears indoors weeks after the weather is so often traced back to it. If a storm went through and nothing looks wrong, that is worth a proper look rather than a relief.

What a written storm scope should contain

Each damage type named separately, the repair described, a price against it, and a photograph of the thing being claimed. If the scope is one line and one number, there is nothing in it that you or anyone else can check.

It should also say plainly where repair stops and replacement starts. A covering damaged in several planes on an older roof is usually a replacement, and a scope that quietly prices it as a very large repair is not doing you any favours either.

And it should be dated, because when the damage was recorded is part of the record.

What Gulf storms do to a roof here

Three mechanisms account for the damage this climate produces, and they need different responses. Two of the three are invisible from the ground, which is the single most useful thing to know before deciding for yourself whether your roof came through it intact.

Uplift at the edges and the ridge before the field

Wind does not press evenly on a roof. It accelerates over the ridge and curls at the eaves and rakes, so uplift is highest exactly where the covering is least supported. That is why damage starts at edges and ridges and works inward rather than beginning in the middle of a slope.

It also means the first courses to fail are the ones a ladder can reach, which is the one piece of luck in it. An edge assessment tells you a great deal about whether the rest of the roof took the same loading.

Wind driven rain going where gravity would not take it

Rain arriving sideways gets under laps, behind flashings and through vents that shed falling water perfectly well. A roof can be entirely sound against vertical rain and still let water in during a storm, which is why a leak that only appears in high wind is a different diagnosis from one that appears in any rain.

That distinction matters, because the fix is usually a detail rather than the covering. Replacing shingles on a roof that leaks only sideways will not stop it.

Hail, which is judged by count rather than by appearance

Hail damage is not decided by how bad the roof looks. It is assessed by counting impacts within a measured test square on each slope, because that is what separates a covering that has lost service life from one that is merely marked.

It is also the damage type most often called wrong in both directions. A roof can look peppered and test clean, or look fine and be bruised through. The count is the answer, and it is done on the roof.

Big Easy Roofing Process

Four steps, and the photographs come before the repair rather than after it, because once the roof is fixed the evidence of what happened no longer exists.

01

Assess on the roof, not from the ground

Every slope walked where it is safe, edges and ridges checked first, hail counted per test square, and the interior looked at where there is attic access. Damage that is invisible from the driveway is the point of the exercise.

02

Photograph and categorise

Time and location stamped photographs of each damage type before anything is touched, sorted into categories so the scope can be read line by line. The pack is yours whatever you decide to do next.

03

Written scope, priced by category

Each category named, the repair described and priced separately, with the point where repair stops and replacement starts stated plainly rather than buried in a total.

04

Repair, and confirm the permit position if it grows

Localised repairs proceed; where the scope becomes a re roof we confirm the parish position first. Call (504) 800-8196 to book the assessment.
