Roof Repairs in Baton Rouge, LA

Big Easy Roofing repairs roofs across Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish, priced per repair rather than per square. Most leaks are not where the stain is, so we trace the source first and photograph it, then write the defect, the fix and the price before a tool comes out.

Baton Rouge roof repairs at a glance

A residential roof repair in Baton Rouge is estimated at $350 to $1,500 and is priced per repair, not per square. The number moves on what is actually wrong rather than how big the roof is, which is why the leak gets traced before anything is quoted.

Estimated repair cost

$350 to $1,500

Most residential repairs land in this band. A single flashing detail or a handful of shingles sits at the bottom, a valley rebuild or repeated decking repair at the top. Call Big Easy Roofing on (504) 800-8196 and we will come and look before quoting.

Who issues the permit

East Baton Rouge Parish

For addresses in Baton Rouge and the unincorporated parish. If your address falls inside the City of St. George limits it is permitted by St. George instead, which we confirm before filing anything.

Permit on a repair

Not named in the rule

The parish notice that brought in roof permits covers roof installations, meaning reroofs and new construction. A repair is not named in it. That is not the same as an exemption, so we confirm the position with Permits and Inspections on 225-389-3205 for the specific scope before starting.

Code

2021 IRC

Louisiana has adopted the 2021 International Residential Code with state amendments. A repair is built to the same fastener, underlayment and edge detail as new work, because a repair that does not match the surrounding roof is where the next leak starts.

Most repair visits

1 to 4 hours

Tracing and fixing a single defect is usually a morning. A valley, a chimney or several separate defects on one roof runs longer, and anything needing decking is quoted separately once the covering is off.

Warranty

Workmanship on the repair

The repair carries our workmanship warranty. Where the covering is still inside its manufacturer warranty, we work to keep that intact rather than void it with a mismatched patch.

Every figure on this page is an estimate, not a quote, and is subject to Big Easy Roofing sign off. Cost and timescale depend on size, pitch, access, weather, materials and whatever is found once work starts, so call Big Easy Roofing on (504) 800-8196 and we will come out and give you an estimate for your own roof.

The single most useful thing to know about a roof leak is that the water almost never enters above the stain. It runs along the underside of the decking, down a rafter, and drops wherever the fall stops. A crew that patches directly over the ceiling mark has treated the symptom, and the call comes back after the next heavy rain.

That is why a repair is quoted after a look rather than over the phone. Most Baton Rouge leaks trace to a detail rather than the field of the roof: a flashing at a wall or chimney, a valley that has worn through, a pipe boot whose rubber collar has split, or a nail that has backed out and lifted the shingle above it. Those are cheap to fix correctly and expensive to fix repeatedly.

The judgement call is when to stop repairing. One defect on an otherwise sound covering is worth fixing. Three separate defects on a covering already past twenty years, or a roof that has been layered over, usually means the money is better spent once. We will tell you which of those you have and put both numbers in writing.

What actually gets repaired and what does not

Five defects account for most Baton Rouge repair calls. The table sets out what each one is, the estimated cost of putting it right, and the honest answer on whether repairing it is worth doing at all rather than putting the money toward a replacement.

DefectEstimated repairWorth repairingWhy
Pipe boot collar split$350 to $600Almost alwaysA ten dollar part causing a ceiling stain. Cheapest fix on the roof
Step or counter flashing at a wall or chimney$500 to $1,200Almost alwaysA detail failure, not a covering failure. The rest of the roof is usually fine
Valley worn through$700 to $1,500UsuallyConcentrates the most water on the roof, so it fails first and is worth doing properly
Missing or lifted shingles after wind$350 to $900Depends on ageFine on a young roof. On a brittle covering the repair breaks the shingles around it
Soft or spongy decking found at tear backQuoted once exposedRarely on its ownDecking that has stayed wet usually means the leak has run a long time. Often a replacement

Every figure is an estimate and none of it is a quote. Call (504) 800-8196 and we will trace the leak and put the defect, the fix and the price in writing before anything starts.

Does a repair need a permit in East Baton Rouge

Louisiana changed its roofing rules in 2025 and most coverage of it has been about reroofs. The question nobody answers cleanly is what it means for a repair, so here is what the parish notice and the statute actually say, and what they do not say.

What the new rule covers

Reroofs and new build

Act 239 of 2025 introduced the requirement, now carried at La. R.S. 37:3737(I), which requires every parish that issues construction permits to permit and inspect roof construction and reroofing. East Baton Rouge applied it to jobs starting after 1 August 2025, and its own notice describes it as covering roof installations, including both reroofs and new construction.

A repair is not named

In either document

Neither the statute nor the parish notice names a repair. That is a real distinction and it is worth knowing. It is also not an exemption, and a parish can still require a permit for work under its general rules, so the honest answer is that it depends on the scope and it is confirmed before we start.

Where a repair crosses over

Into reroof territory

A repair that grows until most of a slope is being re covered stops being a repair. At that point the reroof regime applies, including the sixteen geotagged photographs the parish wants filed through MyGovernmentOnline. We tell you when a job is heading that way rather than after it has.

Built to the same code either way

2021 IRC

Whether or not a permit is pulled, the repair is built to the 2021 International Residential Code with Louisiana amendments: the fastener pattern, the underlayment lap and the edge detail that the surrounding roof should already have.

The 25 percent rule you have read about is a Florida rule

This one comes up constantly and it does not apply here. The 25 percent rule is Section 706 of the Florida Building Code, Existing Building, and it limits how much of a roof can be repaired or recovered in a twelve month period before the whole system has to be brought to current code.

Louisiana is on the International codes, not the Florida code, so there is no equivalent percentage trigger here. What decides it in East Baton Rouge is the permit itself and the scope of the work, which is a question for the parish rather than a number you can look up.

Who permits your address is not obvious from the postcode

East Baton Rouge Parish contains Baton Rouge, Baker, Zachary, Central and St. George, and permitting is not uniform across them. Since 16 October 2024 building permits inside the City of St. George limits have been handled by St. George rather than the parish, for applications filed on or after that date.

An address can read as Baton Rouge on an envelope and sit in a different permitting jurisdiction. We settle that before anything is filed, which on a small repair often takes one phone call and saves a week.

The defects that come back on Baton Rouge roofs

Three patterns account for most repeat repair calls in this climate, and each one is a reason a previous repair did not hold. Recognising which you have is the difference between fixing it once and paying for the same slope three summers running.

A patch that was never traced

The commonest reason a roof is on its third repair is that the first two were done where the stain was. Water travels, so a patch directly above a ceiling mark can be nowhere near the entry point, and the roof gets progressively more punctured without the leak ever stopping.

Tracing costs an hour and it is the part that decides whether the rest of the money is wasted. We photograph the actual entry point so you can see what was wrong rather than taking it on trust.

Heat and humidity ageing the covering faster than the rating suggests

A shingle sold as a thirty year product realistically gives eighteen to twenty two years in this climate. Gulf heat, humidity and wind driven rain age a covering faster than the test conditions the rating comes from, and a shallow pitch that drains slowly ages it faster again.

That matters for a repair because a brittle covering breaks around the fix. On a roof past twenty years the repair can create the next two defects, which is when the honest advice is to stop repairing.

Low slope rear sections holding water

A great many Baton Rouge houses have a pitched main roof and a shallow addition or porch across the back. Shingle does not belong below a 4:12 pitch without a specific underlayment build, and that is exactly where repeat leaks concentrate.

A repair on that section is usually a temporary measure. The durable answer is a different covering on the low slope only, priced as its own line rather than folded into a whole roof.

Big Easy Roofing Process

Four steps, and the first one is the one most repair quotes skip. Nothing is priced until the leak has been traced to where the water actually enters, because a price for the wrong defect is not a saving.

01

Trace the leak, not the stain

We work back from the mark inside to where the water is entering, check the obvious suspects at flashings, valleys and boots, and photograph what we find. You keep the photographs whether or not you use us.

02

Written defect, fix and price

You get the defect named, the fix described and the price in writing before anything starts, along with an honest view on whether repairing is the right call at all on a covering of that age.

03

Confirm the permit position

The parish notice covers reroofs rather than repairs, so we confirm the position for your scope with Permits and Inspections, and we confirm which office covers your address if it sits near the St. George limits.

04

Repair, photograph, clear up

The repair is built to the 2021 IRC detail the surrounding roof should already have, photographed on completion, and the site magnet swept. Call us on (504) 800-8196 to get the first step booked.
