Gutter Repair in LaPlace, LA

Big Easy Roofing repairs gutters and downspouts across LaPlace and the east bank of St. John the Baptist Parish, priced per defect rather than per foot. The parish says localized flooding can occur anywhere in the parish when isolated rainstorms drop large amounts of rain in relatively short periods. In our view, a gutter that has failed puts that same kind of rain down in one place, at the wall.

LaPlace gutter repair at a glance

A gutter repair is a scoped fix for a single defect: a sagging run re hung, a leaking seam re sealed, a blocked downspout cleared, or a torn end cap replaced. A single defect is estimated at $150 to $600 and normally finishes in one visit.

Estimated per defect

$150 to $600

A single defect repair on a residential gutter, priced after an on site diagnosis. We walk every run and photograph each defect before anything is quoted.

Multi defect visit

$600 to $1,800

Two or more defects on the same visit, such as several sagging runs, a few failed seams and a torn end cap, priced as one bundled scope rather than as separate call outs.

Which office covers you

St. John the Baptist Parish

We have not found a parish statement either way on whether a permit is needed for a gutter repair, and a gutter is not a roof covering. Where a visit grows into roof or fascia work we ask the Permit Division on (985) 651-5565 before continuing.

Repair or replace

Under 3 defects

Under three defects on an otherwise sound run usually means a repair. Three or more on the same run usually means the sealant, the coil stock or the fascia fixing behind it is at the end of its life. Sizing for a replacement is set on the LaPlace gutter installation page.

How the parish describes rain flooding

Short, heavy, anywhere

The parish Flood Protection page says localized flooding can occur anywhere in the parish, even outside the Special Flood Hazard Area, when isolated rainstorms drop large amounts of rain in relatively short periods of time.

Warranty

1 yr workmanship

One year workmanship warranty on the repair we carry out, whether that is the sealant, the hangers, the re seat on the fascia or a replacement run.

Every figure on this page is an estimate, not a quote, and is subject to Big Easy Roofing sign off. Cost and timescale depend on size, pitch, access, weather, materials and whatever is found once work starts, so call Big Easy Roofing on (504) 800-8196 and we will come out and give you an estimate for your own roof.

A gutter usually gets a call when water is doing something it should not. It sheets over the front edge in the middle of a run, it drips down the fascia and stains the wall, it pools at the base of a downspout, or a section has visibly dropped away from the roof line. Each has a different cause and a different fix, which is why the diagnosis comes before the price. Every figure on this page is an estimate, not a quote, and is subject to Big Easy Roofing sign off.

The one worth understanding before you call anyone is overflow, because the obvious cause is not always the real one. A gutter has a fixed capacity, set by its size, its fall and the number of downspouts against the area of roof draining into it, and heavy bursts are what test it. A clean gutter that still overflows in a heavy storm is undersized, short of outlets or has lost its fall, and which one it is can be checked.

The LaPlace detail is the kind of rain involved. The parish describes localized flooding from short, intense rainstorms, ponding where low areas cannot drain, and urban flooding made worse by hard surfaces. The parish does not write about gutters here; our point is simply that a failed gutter drops a roof's worth of that same rain along one line at the foundation. Call Big Easy Roofing on (504) 800-8196 to book a diagnosis.

Common gutter defects and typical scope

Gutter repairs fall into seven classes. The table gives the typical scope, the estimated price band and how long each takes on site. Under three defects on one sound run is usually a repair. Three or more usually means replacing the run beats stacking fixes.

Defect classWhat we doEstimated price bandVisit length
Sagging run, one to three hangersRe hang on new hidden hangers, re seat to the fascia$150 to $3501 to 2 hours
Leaking seam or cornerClean the seam, re seal with butyl, re bed the corner joint$150 to $3001 to 2 hours
Blocked downspoutClear the blockage, flush through, test the flow at the outlet$150 to $2501 hour
Torn end cap or missing splash blockReplace the end cap and re seal, or fit a new splash block$150 to $3001 hour
Wind damaged downspoutRe hang or replace the downspout section and secure it to the wall$250 to $5002 hours
Fascia rot behind the gutterTake the section down, replace the rotten fascia, repaint, re hang$300 to $7002 to 4 hours
Whole run replacementStrip the failed run, form new seamless aluminium on site, re hang$600 to $1,800Half a day

Estimated ranges, not quotes, and none of them includes a capacity upgrade such as a larger profile or an extra downspout, which is priced separately once the roof area is measured. We put the defect, the fix and the price in writing before anything starts.

How the parish describes rain flooding, and where a failed gutter fits in

The parish Flood Protection page says flooding in St. John the Baptist Parish is not only a flood zone question. It describes localized flooding from short, intense rain, ponding in low areas that cannot drain, and urban flooding made worse by hard surfaces. It does not mention gutter repair; the connection below is ours.

Localized flooding, anywhere

Even outside the flood zone

The parish says: "Localized flooding can occur anywhere in the Parish, even outside of the Special Flood Hazard Area when isolated rainstorms drop large amounts of rain in relatively short periods of time."

Ponding

Low areas that cannot drain

The parish lists six types of flooding of concern in Louisiana and says all six have been observed in St. John the Baptist Parish. One is ponding, which it describes as concave areas, such as parking lots, roads and clay lined natural low areas, that collect water and are unable to drain.

Urban flooding and hard surfaces

When drainage cannot keep pace

The parish describes urban flooding, in urbanized areas, as taking place when storm water drainage systems cannot keep pace with heavy precipitation, and says it is made worse by impervious surfaces such as concrete and asphalt.

Where a gutter fits, in our view

Our reasoning, not the parish's

A roof is a hard surface too, and the gutter decides where its water lands. A run that overflows, or a downspout that has come apart, drops that water along one line beside the foundation instead of carrying it away. That is why we treat an overflow as a repair to find, not a mess to clean. Read the parish text on its Flood Protection page.

Overflow, fascia rot and the loop it starts

The damage from an overflowing gutter is rarely the water you can see. Water that backs up behind the run reaches the fascia, the timber the gutter is screwed to. Wet fascia holds moisture against the roof edge, the hangers lose their grip, the run sags further, and it overflows more.

A sagging run re hung early is a couple of hundred dollars and stops that loop before soffit and eave framing are involved.

What the parish already asks, and what it does not

The parish lists grading soil and redirecting gutters away from buildings among its permanent flood measures; that is covered on our LaPlace roof maintenance page. It publishes no rule about gutter repair itself.

Whether a repair visit that grows into roof or fascia work needs a permit is for the Permit Division on (985) 651-5565, and we ask before continuing rather than assume.

Why gutters fail on a LaPlace house

Three patterns come up in the repairs we quote: heat and humidity working on sealed seams, wind pushing a fully loaded run at its fixings, and outlets that block faster than the gutter above them. On a historic building where the guidelines apply, there can be a fourth question: whether the existing gutter should be repaired before it is replaced.

Seams giving way to heat cycling

A sectional gutter is watertight because of a bead of butyl or silicone at each lap joint. That bead expands and contracts every day of a Louisiana summer, and a sealed joint is a common place for a leak to start.

The tell is a dark drip stain on the fascia directly under a joint. One seam is a straight forward re seal. Several failing on the same run means the whole run is at that age.

Wind loaded runs pulling their fixings

A fully loaded gutter under a Gulf storm is heavy in itself, and wind along the eave adds a horizontal load. The run moves on its hangers first, then sags at the low point, then the water sheets over the front edge instead of reaching the outlet.

The repair is usually new hangers at a tighter spacing, once the fascia behind them has been checked, since a sag can come from rot or failed fixings rather than spacing alone.

Outlets that block first

The downspout outlet is the narrowest part of the whole system, so it can block while the gutter still looks clear from the ground. The tell is water overflowing at the downspout end rather than in the middle.

Clearing it is quick and cheap, and the cleared debris is bagged and taken away. If it keeps happening, the honest answer is usually guards or a larger outlet.

On a historic building, Standard 6 favours repair

Where an existing gutter is itself a deteriorated historic feature and the guidelines apply, Standard 6 favours repair before replacement, and allows replacement where the deterioration requires it. The parish 2024 LaPlace Historic District Design Guidelines reproduce the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation, including Standard 6: "Deteriorated historic features shall be repaired rather than replaced. Where the severity of deterioration requires replacement of a distinctive feature, the new feature shall match the old in design, color, texture, and other visual qualities and, where possible, materials."

Whether an existing gutter is a historic feature of a particular building, and whether the guidelines apply to the address at all, is for Planning and Zoning on (985) 651-5565, not for us.

Big Easy Roofing Process

Three steps and a free first visit. The diagnosis is per defect, so you can see what is being repaired and why before any number is agreed.

01

Free on site diagnosis

An estimator walks every gutter run, photographs each defect, checks whether the run is big enough for the roof draining into it, and notes where each downspout actually discharges. You keep the photographs whether or not you use us.

02

Written quote, defect by defect

The scope names each defect, the fix, the materials, the warranty and the price. Where three or more defects sit on one run, replacing it is priced against the sum of the repairs.

03

Repaired, usually within the week

Typically one return visit inside a week. The written price stands unless something behind the run changes the scope, and then it is amended in writing and signed before the crew carries on.
